This needle case is made after an early medieval finding in Birka.

The brass ring goes through the needle openings inside the bone case.

Needle cases like these have been worn on cords, attached to the traditional worn fibulas on early medieval overdresses. They have been part of the early medieval womens dress accessories.

The case is opened on both sides. We recommend putting a piece of wool into the case to provide a rest for the needles.
